In my family, Whistler has become our favorite winter destination. The combination of its charming village with the best ski slopes in the world is hard to match, and every year it keeps us coming back for more. ❄️

After four consecutive years visiting during this season, I can say I have the experience of having stayed at the best hotels in Blackcomb, such as the Four Seasons Whistler (see my review here) and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler (see my review here), and in Whistler, the Westin Resort & Spa Whistler. And one recurring question is: is it better to stay on the Blackcomb side or right in Whistler Village? 🤔

📍 Location and snow logistics: is this the best access to the mountain?

Most likely, if you decided to go to Whistler in winter, you’re thinking about skiing. This hotel undoubtedly has the best location in the Whistler area. It sits literally just a few steps from the main Whistler gondola and the Excalibur gondola. 🚠

🛏️ The rooms: the big advantage (full kitchen) and what nobody tells you

If you’re traveling as a family, you know that sometimes you don’t feel like dealing with the logistics of going out for breakfast or dinner, and what an advantage it is to have a kitchen inside the room. 🍽️

The Westin’s rooms are suite-style, very spacious and beautiful, with a sofa bed, fireplace and, most practically, a fully equipped kitchen:

🏊 Heated pool: the indoor/outdoor tunnel

Another advantage I see in this hotel, and one I really like, is the pool area. It has the special detail of being a pool with an indoor and an outdoor section. Kids can get into the warm water under the roof and swim outside through the tunnel. It also has two outdoor hot tubs especially for adults. 🫧

🧖 Spa access: Avello Spa

If after skiing or keeping up with the kids you need a moment for yourself, the hotel has the Avello Spa. It’s huge, and its sauna and eucalyptus steam room are delightful. But I do recommend booking ahead, since during my stay there were few availability options left. 🌿

🍽️ Dining at the hotel: practical and no-fuss

If you’re staying at this hotel, I do recommend taking advantage of the location and enjoying the different dining options in the area; however, there’s no denying the convenience of the different food and beverage options right on the property:

Mom tip: In the outdoor patio there are usually the classic Canadian red chairs with small fire pits. You can bring your marshmallows and roast them with your kids over the fires. It’s also beautiful and lit up at night.

⚠️ To consider:

🏔️ So, is the Westin Whistler worth it for your family winter vacation?

Based on my experience, I consider The Westin Whistler to be probably one of the smartest and most convenient options on the mountain if you’re going as a family, for all the reasons I mentioned above.

If you have a trip planned to Whistler this season, I suggest checking dates early; the 1-bedroom suites tend to be the first to sell out:
