For my family, Whistler has become our favorite winter destination. The combination of its charming village with some of the best ski runs in the world is hard to match, and every year it brings us back for more. ❄️✨
Whistler is divided into two connected mountains: Whistler and Blackcomb. In my experience, the Whistler area has more energy and a younger vibe, while Blackcomb is much quieter and home to the best resorts in the area, like the Fairmont Chateau Whistler and the Four Seasons Whistler. 🌲
After four consecutive years visiting during this season, I can say I know the best hotels in this beautiful place. And without a doubt, my undisputed favorite is the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Here’s my honest review, with the good and the not-so-good. 🤍

✨ Overall Atmosphere
Despite being a high-end hotel (at the time of my stay it holds 2 Michelin Keys 🗝️🗝️), the atmosphere is 100% family-friendly. At no point do you feel that stiffness of hotels where children are made to feel out of place. The lobby is full of life in the afternoons, with live music and entire families relaxing after skiing. 🎶☕ Plus, it was through their Concierge that we discovered the local nanny service we hire every year, which lets us go out to dinner with peace of mind knowing the girls are in the best hands.
🎿 Ski Logistics: Ski-in / Ski-out and Ski Valet
You’re very likely planning to go to Whistler with the hope of skiing. And if you, like me, are someone who doesn’t like carrying your skis or board—much less with your boots on—the Fairmont is going to be a plus for you. It’s a property with ski-in / ski-out access right at the base of Blackcomb, with Ski-Valet service. ⛷️
Inside the resort itself, on the lowest floor, is the official Epic equipment rental shop. Here you can rent your gear and they’ll take care of storing it themselves. This shop has direct snow access out to the base of Blackcomb Mountain. 🏂
When you head out in the morning, your skis are already waiting for you, planted in the snow, ready just a few yards from the Blackcomb gondola. They have super attentive staff helping you buckle your boots and coordinating the handoff without endless lines. ❄️
When you come down the mountain after skiing, you’ll find a station with hot chocolate ☕ and the Ski-Valet service, where you drop off your board / skis and they take care of storing them so you don’t have to walk any farther than necessary.

- 💡 Mom tip: If your kids are going to take lessons at the snow school, the Blackcomb Kids Snow School base is literally right across from the hotel. This detail alone saves you half an hour of morning stress with children.
- 🛷 Another mom tip: At the Concierge area you can request sleds to slide around in the snow with your little ones. And right below the mountain, next to the hot chocolate area, there’s a perfect spot to sled with your kids.

🛏️ Rooms and Family Layout
The rooms are beautiful, cozy and keep that classic mountain hotel style. The beds and sheets are good quality. However, when traveling with small children there are several key points to consider:
- 📐 Space: If you’re traveling as a family of four, the standard room definitely feels tight, especially considering the extra volume of thermal jackets, snow boots and a stroller.
- 🍼 Baby support items: The hotel has an excellent catalog of items to make family logistics easier in the room, such as roll-away beds, cribs, mini-fridges and a microwave (a total lifesaver for warming milk or baby food).
- 💡 Traveling mom tip: Request these items directly from the Concierge weeks before your trip. Crib and microwave availability isn’t unlimited, so this way you can secure them.
- 🛁 The bathroom: Impeccable, spacious and with a traditional tub, which for us is a requirement for a delicious soak in the tub after a day on the mountain.
🫧 A delightful bonus: The amenities are by the luxury brand Le Labo (the signature scent of Fairmont hotels). They smell so spectacular you’ll want to take them straight home.
🏊♀️ Pool, Hot Tubs and Spa Experience
The heated outdoor pool area is one of the property’s big draws. Swimming in warm water while watching snowflakes fall with a pine forest in front of you is a magical scene. ❄️🌲
- 🏊♂️ Family pools and indoor/outdoor swimming: They have a pool that connects the indoors with the outdoors, ideal for getting into the warm water under a roof before heading out into the cold. This is a total plus if you’re going with small children. In fact, in the indoor area you’ll often find families enjoying the warmth.

- 🧖♀️ Multiple hot tubs: They have several outdoor hot tubs at different temperatures. Some areas are busier and others are quieter, designed for relaxing.
- 💆♀️ Spa: A varied selection of spa services available on the property.
- 💡 Mom tip: In the Pool / Spa area you can request slippers and robes in the perfect size for small children. They’re adorable and kids love having “their own robe” to match their parents’. 🥋

🚐 Getting Around and Connection to the Village
As I mentioned earlier, the hotel is located in Blackcomb (Upper Village). This can be a disadvantage if you want to be in the middle of the action of the main restaurants, bars and shops in the village. However, the hotel offers services that completely solve the problem:
- 🚗 House car: At the time of my stay the resort had 2 SUVs offering the “House Car” service to guests. The people driving the SUV were very kind and always willing to help you.
- 💡 Mom tip: In my case, with a baby and a small child, we used the service on several occasions—they even took us all the way to the Bubly Tube Park. Don’t forget to leave a tip.
- 🚌 Complimentary shuttle: The Fairmont operates a private shuttle service exclusively for guests that takes you back and forth continuously from the hotel door to the heart of Whistler Village. They have different stops, the frequency is continuous and the trip takes only 3 or 4 minutes. The shuttles are gold and easy to spot.
- 🚶♀️ Walking: Despite the transportation I mentioned, the hotel is very close to the center: during the day you can cross a flat, tree-lined path covered in snow that takes you straight to Olympic Plaza in about 10 to 12 minutes. The path is beautiful and completely enjoyable.

- 🌙 Quiet: Being in this area, a good night’s rest is guaranteed. Compared to my experience at hotels on the Whistler side, here there’s zero noise from bars or large groups going out partying at night.
🍽️ Food and Dining Options (Specific Points)
The dining within the resort is varied and delicious. It handles day-to-day family needs very well, though with prices in line with a luxury mountain destination:
- 🥞 The Wildflower (Breakfast buffet): Spectacular in variety, fresh fruit, freshly baked breads and hot stations. To start the day with energy before heading up the mountain it’s wonderful, though I suggest going down early to avoid the line. It’s worth mentioning that children 5 and under eat breakfast free.
- 🥪 Portobello (The Grab & Go lifesaver): Located on the ground floor toward the ski plaza. It’s casual, fast and delicious. They sell deli-style sandwiches made to order, waffles, enormous artisan donuts and excellent quality coffee. They also have Grab & Go options to take straight to your room. In my case, that’s where I’d buy milk and something light for my daughter’s dinner. ☕🍩

- 🍸 The Mallard Lounge: The adults’ favorite spot. My husband and I usually come here as the classic gathering place for après-ski. They have very good beers and cocktails for adults and simple but delicious snack options like the Nachos or the Artichoke Dip.
- 🍕 Kids can come here too without a problem and enjoy dishes like pizza or burgers.

- 🥩 The Grill Room: Their formal steakhouse offering. Excellent quality for a special date-night dinner for two, taking advantage of the private nanny service.

🧸 The Big Lifesaver: Kids Playroom and Family Activities
I always appreciate a good Kids Club at a resort. And what many people don’t tell you is that the Fairmont Chateau Whistler has an excellent one during the winter season. One of its large halls transforms into a family play area (Kids Playroom). 🎨🧩
It’s a super complete indoor space where you’ll find everything from toys, blocks and mats ideal for babies and toddlers, to foosball tables, board games, consoles and crafts for older kids. Plus, the hotel has a program of organized daily activities (like kids’ movie time with popcorn, cookie decorating or bonfires for s’mores). 🍿🍪🔥
- 💡 Mom tip: When you check in or stop by the Concierge, immediately ask for the printed sheet with the week’s children’s activity schedule. Having the times for crafts or movie nights on hand lets you plan your naps, pool escapes or couple’s breaks without the kids being bored for even a single minute.
⚖️ Verdict: Pros, Cons and “Who Is It For?”
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is a spectacular resort that strikes a perfect balance between practicality for parents and a family-friendly atmosphere with a sophisticated, memorable winter experience.
🌟 Why it’s my favorite in the area:
- 📍 The location: It’s the best location in the area if what you’re after is true ski-in / ski-out access with Ski Valet service.
- 🏊♀️ The pool: The indoor area that connects to the outdoors is a total plus for families in the cold winter season. Plus, it’s beautiful.
- The dining: Everything is delicious and there are varied options.
- 👨👩👧👦 The family atmosphere and the staff service that solves any need for traveling with babies and small children (crib, sled, mini-fridge for milk).
- ⭐ Honorable mention to the hotel’s planned activities for kids.
- 🧴 The Le Labo amenities: It sounds crazy, but for me this is something I remember and that takes me back to a restful, luxurious stay.
⚠️ Things to consider:
- 🧳 Standard rooms can feel somewhat compact if you travel with a lot of winter gear and a stroller. This is something the Four Seasons Whistler wins at completely.
- 🗺️ The Blackcomb location can be a disadvantage if you want to spend a lot of time in Whistler Village or you’re more interested in a party scene.
🎯 Clear recommendation:
It’s the ideal hotel for families with small children or toddlers looking for absolute comfort at the base of the slopes and zero transportation complications for skiing. If your priority is maximizing time on the snow, having complete amenities under one roof and resting in a quiet setting with immediate access to the village, this resort is worth every penny invested.
